GT 38/2 in 5 overs: Sandeep continues. Full outside off, Sudharsan gets an outside edge on the drive but it drops short of the slip catcher. Wide down leg next ball. Two dot balls as Sharma keeps it on a length outside off and Sudharsan fails to clear the off-side field. Cuts this time behind point and gets a couple. GT 34/2 in 4 overs: Saha misses this length ball from Rabada and cops it on his thigh pad. FOUR! Full toss on the pads and pulled way to the fine-leg boundary. GT 17/0 in 2 overs: Rabada from the other end. On the money first ball. On a length, angling in and Gill gets a faint leading edge trying to work it on the leg-side. FOUR! Times this punch past mid-on to perfection and finds the boundary.

GT 4/0 in 1 over: Saha and Gill are out in the middle. Sandeep Sharma will open the bowling. Wide outside off and Saha lets it go. FOUR! Similar line outside off and Saha drives it crisply through the covers for a boundary. Slightly closer to the stumps, still outside off and Saha defends. A bit shorter this time outside off, Saha hops to cut it but finds the fielder at covers. Two more dots to end the over. Extra bounce outside off keeps Saha on his toes, both figuratively and literally.

Gujarat Titans becomes the first team to bat first twice after winning the toss. However, the openers will have their task cut out against a potent bowling attack. It doesn’t help that Shubman Gill, who is coming off a poor run of form, has an unfavourable match up Kagiso Rabada – 20 runs in 32 balls with two dismissals.

The last time Gujarat Titans faced Punjab Kings in an Indian Premier League (IPL) fixture, Rahul Tewatia hit two sixes off the last two deliveries to seal the deal for the new entrant.

And when the two teams meet at the DY Patil Stadium on Tuesday, Gujarat Titans, which has won eight out of nine games, will once again be pinning its hopes on Tewatia. After being roped in by the Titans for a whopping Rs 9 crore in the auction, the all-rounder from Haryana has justified his price tag, emerging as one of the match-winners for the franchise.

The Titans have fired in every department, under the watchful eyes of captain Hardik Pandya. While Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill have made their presence felt as openers, the middle-order has been solid with Hardik, David Miller and Rashid Khan. Coming into the tournament after a long break, Hardik has so far amassed 308 runs in the tournament and has led the side from the front.

Punjab Kings, on the other hand, has been inconsistent with five defeats in nine outings and it needs to regroup in a bid to stay in contention for the playoffs. Even though skipper Mayank Agarwal, batters Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone have done well in patches, and their lack of consistency has been a concern.

While pacer Arshdeep Singh has impressed, the seasoned campaigners Kagiso Rabada and Rahul Chahar need to shoulder more responsibility and be consistent.
